Prayer: Heavenly Father, Help Us

Heavenly Father, Help Us HEAVENLY FATHER, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children. Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester. Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares. Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last...

Inspirational: Rules from God

Rules from God Wake Up!  Decide to make it a good day. "This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it" Psalms 118:24. Dress Up!  The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks in to the heart" I Samuel 16:7. Listen Up!  Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. "He who guards his mouth protects his life…" Proverbs 13:3. Stand Up!  For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything. "Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all…" Galatians 6:9-10. Look Up!  To the Lord. "I have the strength for everything throug...

An Easter Prayer by Helen Steiner Rice

An Easter Prayer by Helen Steiner Rice: May this Easter Grandeur Awaken Faded Flowers of Faith God, give us eyes to see the beauty of the Spring, And to behold Your majesty in every living thing – And may we see in lacy leaves and every budding flower The Hand that rules the universe with gentleness and power – And may this Easter grandeur that Spring lavishly imparts Awaken faded flowers of faith lying dormant in our hearts, And give us ears to hear, dear God, the Springtime song of birds With messages more meaningful than man’s often empty words Telling harried human beings who are lost in dark despair – ‘Be like us and do not worry for God has you in His care. –Helen Steiner Rice Click here for a fun Easter bunny meme .

A summer prayer

Long warm days... The pace of life slows... A time for picnics and rest in the shade... Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen.

Prayer for the game of life

Richard Cardinal Cushing D EAR  G OD , help me be a good sport in the game of life. I don't ask for an easy place in the lineup. Put me anywhere you need me. I only ask that I can give you 100% of everything I have. If all the hard drives seem to come my way, I thank you for the compliment. Help me to remember that you never send a player more trouble then he can handle with your help… A nd help me, Lord, to accept the bad breaks as part of the game. May I always play on the square no matter what others do…Help me study…T HE  B OOK  so I'll know the rules… F inally, God, if the natural turn of events goes against me and I am benched for sickness or old age, help me accept that as a part of the game, too. Keep me from whimpering that I was framed or that I got a raw deal. And when I finish the final inning, I ask for no laurels; all I want is to believe in my heart, I played as well as I could and that I didn't let you down. Amen.

Rev. Joe Wright prayer at the Kansas State Senate

This is an interesting  prayer given in Kansas at  the opening session of their Senate. It seems   prayer still upsets some  people... When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open  the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual  generalities, but this is  what they heard:     Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask  your forgiveness and to seek your direction and  guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those  who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we  have done.   We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed  our values.       We have exploited the poor and called it   the lottery.     We have rewarded laziness and called it  welfare.       We have killed our unborn and called it   choice.    We have shot abortionists and called it  justifiable.   ...
