Good Deeds

Good Deeds Need a feel-good boost? Do something nice for another person or local organization. Many small business owners are losing money right now. Try to make a purchase online (e.g., buy gift cards to your favorite local restaurants). If you have an older neighbor and feel comfortable, offer to leave groceries at their doorstep. Donate to a local nonprofit you support (family services, food pantries, arts organizations, shelters). Many of their resources are tight right now. COVID-19 prevention

Advice from Stanford University Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning:  Take a deep breath and hold it for more than 10 seconds. If you do this successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, there is no fibrosis in the lungs; it basically indicates no infection. In critical times, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air. Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases:  Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and then the lungs. That's very dangerous. * Snopes says this is fake news ! Please copy a...

CAN Approach - eat healthy

CAN Approach Changing eating behavior can be difficult. But studies show that the CAN (convenient, attractive, and normal) approach makes it easier to eat healthy. Make fruits and vegetables more… Convenient : place in easy-to-reach spots like by your keys, chop them up in snack containers, buy them freeze-dried to go. Attractive : put them in appealing bowls and containers. Normal : give them a lot of real estate in the fridge and have them on hand as snacks.

Oral hygiene

Let's talk about oral hygiene. This is so easy and takes such a tiny amount of time that not doing these things is just dumb. Here we go: Flossing  - Every night, you should be flossing. Why? There are tiny bits of food on and in between your teeth. This food is not harmless...no...it creates bacteria which breaks down tooth enamel and makes your breath smell gross. This takes only one minute! Brushing  - Duh! Every night, you should be brushing your teeth. Of course, most experts say you should brush twice a day but if you are only going to brush once, it should be at night. Why? Those food particles we talked about above are the enemy. They are teeth killers and will make your breath smell really bad. Get rid of them! By the way, you should brush the top, front, and back of every tooth. Hit those front teeth over and over to get them shiny and white. Don't skimp on toothpaste either. It does not cost that much so put a good amount on the brush. Oh yeah, this s...

Heart Attack and Water, Best time to drink water

Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist! Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:  2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse. How many folks do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night!! Heart Attack and Water  - I never knew all of this ! Interesting....... Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate ...

Female heart attack!

NURSE'S HEART ATTACK EXPERIENCE I am an ER nurse and this is the best description of this event that I have ever heard. Please read, pay attention, and send it on! FEMALE HEART ATTACKS I was aware that female heart attacks are different, but this is the best description I've ever read.   Women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have ... you know, the sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest & dropping to the floor that we see in movies. Here is the story of one woman's experience with a heart attack.   I had a heart attack at about 10:30 PM with NO prior exertion, NO prior emotional trauma that one would suspect might have brought it on. I was sitting all snugly & warm on a cold evening, with my purring cat in my lap, reading an interesting story my friend had sent me, and actually thinking, 'A-A-h, this is the life, all cozy and warm in my...

Mayo Clinic Heart Attack and Aspirin advice

Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.  Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between  6 A.M.  and noon. Having one during the night, when  the heart should be most at rest, means  that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues  have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is  to blame. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day,  take it at night.  The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life";  therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the  wee hours of the morning, the  Aspirin would be strongest in your system.  FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar)....
