Memory Tips

Memory tips Five senses - When reading through text, try to involve as many of your five senses as possible. Highlighting is one way to do this because it gets your arms and eyes involved and adds a color. If you get a fruit scented highlighter, that is even better. Highlighting is good for marking things to remember later, of course. However, the key is to put more of your body into the process which helps in remembering the material. Highlighting is one way to do that.  Repeat - Another good tip for memorizing is to repeat the important items back. If you can see, hear it, and say it out loud that helps involve your five senses as well. Chew gum - Another way to help memorizing is by chewing gum while studying. This helps make your brain more alert and aware. Another thing to try is to chew the same gum while taking the exam. This can help you remember. Scientists call this state dependent recall. Memory recall appears to be state-dependent, at least to some extent.  Remind

The formula to happiness

The formula for happiness Happiness is a matter of what you choose to pay attention to or where you choose to set your focus. You can be miserable while doing the most fun thing in the world if you choose to pay attention to the worst parts of it. Happy people are mentally disciplined. They know how to control their emotional attention. Here are some ideas for happiness. Get a job! Joy is found in things that fulfill you. These are things like: Faith Family Hobbies Passions A job If you don't have a job and have bills to pay, consider getting one. If you have a job but hate it and are thinking of quitting to sit on the couch to watch videos, think again. Some people reject a job because it's "beneath them" or it won't make them happy. They will just wait for a happy job to come along. This is a bad idea. Finding a job that makes you happy isn't likely. Most people that are miserable at their jobs are expecting something from the job that it just can't pro

Oral hygiene

Let's talk about oral hygiene. This is so easy and takes such a tiny amount of time that not doing these things is just dumb. Here we go: Flossing  - Every night, you should be flossing. Why? There are tiny bits of food on and in between your teeth. This food is not harmless...no...it creates bacteria which breaks down tooth enamel and makes your breath smell gross. This takes only one minute! Brushing  - Duh! Every night, you should be brushing your teeth. Of course, most experts say you should brush twice a day but if you are only going to brush once, it should be at night. Why? Those food particles we talked about above are the enemy. They are teeth killers and will make your breath smell really bad. Get rid of them! By the way, you should brush the top, front, and back of every tooth. Hit those front teeth over and over to get them shiny and white. Don't skimp on toothpaste either. It does not cost that much so put a good amount on the brush. Oh yeah, this sh

Keys to success in college

Many a kid got by just fine in high school by doing a minimal amount of work. Some of them made the mistake of putting the same amount of effort into college. Don't make this mistake. Most of those kids didn't graduate. Do this instead. Preparation Preparation is important to your success. Just try to be prepared for what is ahead. You can easily do this by taking a few minutes on Saturday or Sunday to plan the next week. Are any assignments due? Is there a test coming up? If you're way behind, now is the time to catch up. Don't be surprised when something is due. At the beginning of the semester, each class will provide a syllabus. Read it! It will include important dates. It will also tell you what is going to be covered during the semester. Planner I know what you're thinking. Planners are outdated and dumb. Well, they've been around forever for a reason. Writing things down helps you remember to do them. You'll also be more likely to get everything done

Bergen Peak Trail

Bergen Peak Trail is a 10.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Evergreen, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. It was not too bad, though. Here is me at the top.  Overall, this is a  nice, casual hike near vibrant Evergreen. It took us about 2 hours to get to the top.  Here is the beginning of the trail.  Check out the scenery! Up at the peak now...we made it! I am not sure what this is. Somebody left this rock up here. It reads: Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it. - MLK, Jr. This is a poem by Martin Luther King, Jr. We left it up there so go up there and check it out. Here are more MLK quotes .  Check out Mt. Evans...we will hit that one next! Now, we descend down the mountain. We went the opposite way to keep it intere
