The formula to happiness

The formula for happiness

Happiness is a matter of what you choose to pay attention to or where you choose to set your focus. You can be miserable while doing the most fun thing in the world if you choose to pay attention to the worst parts of it. Happy people are mentally disciplined. They know how to control their emotional attention.

Here are some ideas for happiness.

Get a job!

Joy is found in things that fulfill you. These are things like:

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Hobbies
  4. Passions
  5. A job

If you don't have a job and have bills to pay, consider getting one. If you have a job but hate it and are thinking of quitting to sit on the couch to watch videos, think again. Some people reject a job because it's "beneath them" or it won't make them happy. They will just wait for a happy job to come along. This is a bad idea.

Finding a job that makes you happy isn't likely. Most people that are miserable at their jobs are expecting something from the job that it just can't provide.

The best thing about most jobs is that they will help you pay bills. But jobs give people value because they're contributing something worthwhile. Yes, money is important, but jobs also help in acquiring skills that can advance your career to something better.

Another secret

The worst thing you can do to be happy is to actively try to be happy. If you're looking for something that makes you happy, you're probably not going to make it. Think about your own life. The happiest times are usually found in the moments when you're not trying so hard to be happy.

Happiness can be found in many unexpected places. Just stop expecting it and it will appear.

Control your happiness

You should know that your happiness is in your control. You may have met downers that think life is out to get them. Nothing goes their way. Don't listen to that.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Happiness is a chemical state and is not something you can think your way to. You are in charge of your own happiness. This is because your happiness is not a mental process. If you treat happiness as a physical process, then you can control it. So, seek ways to improve your lifestyle.
  2. Exercise - Create habits that will make it more likely that you are active every day. If you get this right, your days will be better.
  3. Nature - Get outside. Sun is important. Go for a walk in the woods and experience nature.
  4. Social life - It is your fault if your social life is not what you want it to be. Learn how to talk to people. Learn how to talk to strangers. Learn how to have a good conversation. Free resources are all over the place. The #1 thing to improve your social life is to give more than you get. Be generous. Be someone that makes you happy. Solve a problem for someone. Offer to help someone. Invite people to lunch/dinner. Nobody can see your inside so they cannot know all of your great qualities. They can't read your mind either. Get involved in groups where people are.
  5. Purpose - The best way to find a purpose is to be useful to society. If you are only doing things for yourself, that is not useful to society and will not improve your happiness. Read the section above about having a job.
  6. Always be learning. Read books. Pick up a new skill.
  7. Avoid stress and negativity. Toxic people should be removed from your life. It is hard to be happy if you don't let go of the things that make you sad.

Hey, good luck out there.

Male logic joke

*This is a story which is perfectly logical to all males:*   A wife asks her husband, "Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get 6."   A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.  The wife asks him, "Why the hell did you buy 6 cartons of milk?"   He replied, "They had eggs."

Earth's wobble causes global warming

EARTH’S WOBBLE CAUSES GLOBAL WARNING, NOT CO2 EMISSIONS OR OCEAN CURRENTS, PER TEAM HEADED BY OSU RESEARCHER Digital Journal, “Debate Ends on Central Cause of Earth’s Cooling & Warming,” 8 Aug 2009; Space Daily, “Ice Ages Linked to Slight Shifts in Solar Radiation,” 24 Aug 2009; The Kiplinger Letter, “Climate Change Legislation, What it Means to Business,” 18 Aug 2009. As the carbon dioxide management bill - aka cap and trade - looms in Congress, a new study from Oregon State University emerges that ends the scientific debate on the central causes of ice ages and warming periods on Earth. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is fond of saying that the scientific debate on global warming is over - and while he may now be correct in the fact that a debate has come to an end, the central cause behind climate change does not support the carbon cap legislation that is being cobbled together by Mr. Gore and his Democratic allies in the U.S. Congress.
