List: Five things wrong with Batting Average

  1. Batting average discounts walks as non-events.
  2. Batting average treats all hits equally.
  3. Batting average counts some fly balls as outs and ignores others entirely.
  4. If you hit a ground ball out to third that moves a runner from first to second, that’s an out in your ledger. If you BUNT a ground ball out to third that moves a runner from first to second, that’s not an out in your ledger.
  5. Sometimes, if you hit a ball and reach base safely that is still an out in your batting average.

Male logic joke

*This is a story which is perfectly logical to all males:*   A wife asks her husband, "Could you please go shopping for me and buy one carton of milk, and if they have eggs, get 6."   A short time later the husband comes back with 6 cartons of milk.  The wife asks him, "Why the hell did you buy 6 cartons of milk?"   He replied, "They had eggs."
